Department Of Microbiology

The department of Microbiology was established in the year 1995 with UG course and 1998 with PG course, where students and faculties are involved in exciting educational and core activities in the field of Microbiology. Currently the Department offers B.Sc., Microbiology and M.Sc., Applied Microbiology programs. The curricula for this course are set on the basis of CBSC (Choice Based Credit System) to encourage students to choose the specific field of study pertaining to their interest. The Department possesses a high efficient and well qualified teaching faculty.

The Department imparts knowledge of the basic principles of Immunology, Medical Bacteriology, Mycology and Parasitology, Virology and Molecular Biology. The department has well-furnished laboratories and equipment’s with all basic and advanced facilities for the need of the students. The course offers a great opportunity to study the microbial world and provides a lot of career scopes to the students after its successful completion.

    Eligibility Criteria


A Bachelor’s Degree in Science- Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology or Nutrition, Food Service Management and Dietetics of this University or any other University recognized by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES - PG

  • PO 1.On completion of this programme, Postgraduate students will acquire fundamental and applied knowledge in history, classification, morphology and physiological features of Microorganisms.
  • PO 2.To have a clear understanding on the importance of Microorganisms in different areas like Medical, Food, Pharmaceutical, Industrial, Soil, Agricultural and Environmental Microbiology.
  • PO 3.To have a better understanding on key principles of microbial functioning at an advanced level of Taxonomy, Molecular, Biochemical, Industrial, Medical and other Basic and Applied applications.
  • PO 4.To inculcate effective communication skills to exchange the scientific information, to comprehend and write effective research reports, design documentation and to make effective presentations.
  • PO 5.To familiarize with the role of microbes in human, animal and plant diseases and also with the environment.
  • PO 6.To develop proficiency in the quantitative skills, necessary to analyze biological problems with knowledge of specialized techniques used in the field of Life Sciences.
  • PO 7.To provide broad exposure to various microbial communities, ecological and commercial issues related to the field of Microbiology.
