About

Department of Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a subject that combines biological science and technology to develop innovative products by changing the genetic make-up of biological cells. Biotechnology impacts on the quality of our lives and the world we live in. Biotechnologists tackle global issues in healthcare, energy, environment, food, and agriculture to:

  • Develop new life-saving medicines
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by providing cleaner biofuels
  • Feed growing populations by generating plants with better nutritional value. The Department of Biotechnology is an avant-garde department of PSVASC and established in the year 1995. Currently the department offers B.Sc. Biotechnology and M.Sc. Biotechnology.

The department has well-determined faculty to provide expert commentary and analysis on a broad range of biological research topics. Faculty pass advanced and specialized knowledge to students through which they can conceptualize and interrogate a specific phenomenon. They also mentor students individually and seek out opportunities to work with students on individual projects, lab work, internships, or both. Faculty expertise, as well as additional training courses such as plant tissue culture, bio fertilizer and bio pesticide production and formulation, prepare &tune up students to startup an entrepreneurship

The department has well-equipped, air-conditioned laboratories and consists of the following: Cell and molecular biology lab, Tissue culture lab, sophisticated lab, Immunology lab, Bioprocess engineering lab, Bioinformatics lab, Biochemistry lab, and Microbiology lab.Thermal cycler, spectrophotometer, high speed cooling centrifuge, BOD incubator, CO2 incubator, fermenter, ELISA Reader, Electroporator, and Microtome are among the sophisticated instruments in the department.
